On March 21, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene, accompanied by some members of the Parliament and the Government members, visited Bayan-Ulgii aimag to see some works being carried out in the aimag.The PM met with the local authorities to hear about the socio-economic situation and pressing issues in the aimag, and deputed corresponding officials to complete the tender process urgently, intensify investment works, ensure the preparation of medical checkups to be launched from May 1, and actively participate in the 'Atar-4’ campaign.Afterwards, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene has presented the ‘New Revival Policy’ to the citizens of Bayan-Ulgii aimag and heard their views.“The key goal of the ‘New Revival Policy’ is to expand the economic base of Mongolia and increase the economy by 3-4 times. To achieve this goal, the Government of Mongolia is working to resolve six factors causing hurdles in the country's development. The Government will adhere to the principle of resolving pressing issues with the participation of local people. Within the framework of the ‘New Revival Policy’, major construction works will be carried out to support tourism, infrastructure, and industry based on the features and advantages of Bayan-Ulgii aimag,” said the Prime Minister. The meeting was attended by more than 400 citizens representing all soums of Bayan-Ulgii aimag. Citizens' suggestions were received on the projects to develop the aimag's socio-economy and promote employment. Out of 402 citizens surveyed, 80 percent supported to put the Asgat silver deposit in Nogoon Nuur soum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag into economic circulation. Upon receiving the locals’ suggestion, the PM tasked the corresponding officials to report an issue on putting the Asgat silver deposit into economic circulation at the Cabinet meeting.During the Cabinet meeting held last week, the Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry G.Yondon made a presentation on putting the Asgat silver deposit into economic circulation. In this regard, authorities of the ‘Erdenes Mongol’ LLC were tasked to develop a feasibility study of the project, study the necessary funding issues and report it at the Cabinet meeting.Local people supported to connect Tsagaannuur and Dayan border checkpoints by auto roads to increase their capacity as part of the Border Ports Revival. The Government’s ‘New Revival Policy’ reflects certain issues of operating Tsagaannuur border checkpoint 24/7, ensuring the permanent operation of Dayan border checkpoint, as well as establishing a free zone. Local people were informed of the decision to develop Bayan-Ulgii aimag as the fourth tourism region. Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene also instructed Minister of Road and Transport Development L.Khaltar to commence the construction work of Altai Tavan Bogd road in 2023.During the meeting, citizens touched upon a wide range of issues including how unemployment, inflation, and increasing exchange rates are affecting livelihoods.Moreover, the PM also held a meeting with youth of Bayan-Ulgii aimag to discuss about the ‘Vision-2050’ Mongolia's long-term development policy. ‘Vision-2050’ that compiled more than 590 documents defines country’s development strategy to be implemented in phases of three decades. The policy for the first decade is ‘New Revival Policy’. PM L.Oyun-Erdene stressed that the participation of young people is important for the implementation of this policyBayan-Ulgii aimag has a population of 113.3 thousand. Animal husbandry is the main economic sector of the aimag. According to the 2022 livestock census, a total of 2.3 million head of livestock were counted.

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — The United States agreed Monday to train members of a Guatemalan task force responsible for protecting the country’s borders and putting a brake on uncontrolled migration.
The U.S. offer came during a video call between U.S Vice President Kamala Harris and Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei.
The U.S. will send 16 employees of the Department of Homeland Security to aid in the effort. The United States will also help Guatemala to build shelters for returned migrants and help the migrants transition back to life in their home communities.

The U.S. will send 16 employees of the Department of Homeland Security to aid in the effort. The United States will also help Guatemala to build shelters for returned migrants and help the migrants transition back to life in their home communities.
The agreement comes amid a spike in the number of migrant children arriving at the U.S. border, man of them Guatemalan.

Vice President Kamala Harris in talks with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei Monday proposed that the United States helps train members of a Guatemalan task force in charge of protecting the country’s border.
In a virtual meeting, Harris offered to send 16 Department of Homeland Security employees to assist in the effort, amid a recent spike in unaccompanied minors arriving at the southern border—many of them Guatemalan.
The vice president also said that the United States will increase aid to the region and will assist Guatemala with the construction of shelters for returned migrants.
