9.5K students in Bicol to get educ aid on Sept. 17

Marygizelle Mesa, DSWD-5 information officer, in an interview on Friday, said all its personnel is ready and prepared for the second to the last payout. "Only those beneficiaries who received a text message from our office and some who were contacted by their local government unit with the advice of DSWD will be entertained and received their cash aid. Also, in the upcoming distribution, each province has designated payout venues where beneficiaries could claim the cash grant," Mesa said. 'Basyang' unlikely to affect PH weather

The typhoon entered PAR at 10 a.m. but is not expected to have a direct effect on the country's weather, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). "Basyang" is also unlikely to directly affect the coastal waters' sea condition, but swells resulting from the typhoon is forecast to generate moderate to rough seas over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, as well as the eastern seaboards of the Visayas and Mindanao. The typhoon was last tracked 1,435 kilometers east of southern Luzon, and is forecast to exit PAR in the evening. Bicol towns, cities suspend classes due to 'Agaton'

Among the areas covered by suspension were Legazpi City, Ligao City, Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan, Libon and Sto. Domingo, all in Albay province. In Masbate province, the towns of Mobo and Cataingan also canceled classes. The same directive was issued in the towns of Barcelona, Bulusan, Gubat, Castilla, Casiguran, Donsol, Magallanes, Sta. In its 8 p.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said the center of "Agaton" was spotted in the vicinity of Basey, Samar with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph. Moderate to heavy, with at times intense rainfall will be experienced over Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, the northern and central portions of Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, and the northern and central portions of Negros Provinces.
