The best and worst areas locally for giving out Covid vaccines NEARLY a quarter of people in Reading have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal. NHS data shows 29,774 people had received both jabs by May 9 – 23 per cent of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics. Of those to have received both jabs, 25,262 were aged 40 and over – 37 per cent of the age group. It means 4,512 people aged between 16 to 39 have received both doses. Across England, a third of people aged 16 and over have received their second vaccine dose. The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Reading.
Storage yard to become The site of the new car wash A storage yard will become a car wash, after plans submitted by Adams Motors were approved by the council this week. The site at 187-189 Cardiff Road will become home to a car wash, two containers for storage and car sales. The car wash will be under a canopy towards the front of the site and aims to service three-to-four cars per hour at 15 to 20 minute intervals. One container will be along the back of the site, used as storage for car parts, tyres and tools. The other container will be used as a site office and this will be next to the site entrance.

NHS data shows 23,634 people had received both jabs by April 25 – 18% of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics. Of those to have received both jabs, 19,209 were aged 45 and over – 34% of the age group. It means 4,425 people aged between 16 and 44 have received both doses. The figures also show 67,538 people in Reading have received at least one jab – 53% of those aged 16 and over. It comes as the government announced an extra 60 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus jab have been secured for a booster vaccination programme in the autumn.

Of those vaccinated, 44,204 were aged 50 or over – 96% of the age group. It means 18,781 people aged between 16 and 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine. The data also reveals variation in coverage between different areas across Reading. The proportion of residents prioritised for vaccinations, such as those aged over 50, is one factor that could affect vaccine coverage.
Boathouse fire tackled in Caversham );

FIVE fire crews were sent to tackle a blaze at a boathouse in Caversham Heights on Sunday.
The Grade II listed building on The Warren caught alight at 12.11pm on the ground floor of the boat house at The Warren.
A woman was placed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service after the blaze caused damage to the first and second floors of the building.
Clouds of darks smoke could be seen rising over the property as six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using three hose reels and a main jet.
