GLEN ROCK, NJ The Borough Council voted unanimously to opt out of marijuana sales, at least for now, citing state regulation on sales will not be announced until August. The governing body agreed to review the matter every 90 days after the state comes out with its regulations. I m in favor of opting out, Mayor Kristine Morieko said at the April 14 virtual council meeting. There are so many unknowns. I d rather have all the facts.
Morieko offered an overview of the law that was adopted in February after a statewide referendum approved the adult-use legalization by a vote of 2,737,682 (67.08%) to 1,343,610 (32.92%), according to Ballotpedia. According to the Bergen County Clerk s Office, 208,941 (66.51%) Bergen County voters approved the legalization of recreational marijuana use, while 105,208 (33.49%) voted against it.
