Veteran Cemetery Finds Home in Anaheim Hills

Veteran Cemetery Finds Home in Anaheim Hills  ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif. Officials and veterans gathered July 1 to celebrate the claiming of land for a controversial veteran cemetery in Anaheim Hills. “Today Anaheim is open to veterans,” said Anaheim Councilmember Trevor O’Neil. “I’m bringing a resolution to Anaheim city council later this month to support the veteran cemetery and commit the City of Anaheim [to a] proactive role in helping to bring this project to fruition.” The announcement came about a week after plans to build the memorial grounds in Irvine fizzled. Following years of reports and studies, Irvine city council on June 22 took no action to construct a Veteran’s Memorial Park and Cemetery at the Orange County Great Park.

Irvine Will Consider 'Hero Pay' for Grocery Store Workers

Irvine Will Consider ‘Hero Pay’ for Grocery Store Workers  Irvine city council will consider boosting the pay of grocery store workers during the COVID-19 pandemic at a Feb. 9 meeting. If approved, the ordinance would increase employee pay by an extra $4 an hour at any large franchise company not including managers, or supervisors for 120 days. The ordinance would go into effect immediately. “I am very supportive of our grocery store workers who have been on the front line and who’ve been greatly exposed,” Irvine Councilmember Tammy Kim told The Epoch Times. “The grocery store workers that we have here are going through a lot. They are some of our … poorest residents.”

CARES Act Funds Will Be Spent Before Use-It-Or-Lose-It Deadline, Orange County Says Less than two weeks before a use-it-or-lose-it deadline to spend $554 million in federal pandemic relief funds, details about how the money has been disbursed or allocated in Orange County, California, remain unclear. The county was given the $554 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds on March 27 and has until Dec. 30 to spend it, or it must return the money to the federal government. The funds were intended to protect the American people “from the public health and economic impacts of COVID-19,” according to the U.S. Department of Treasury.
