SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. -- San Luis Obispo County have finally completed a solar energy project at its County Operations Center facility.
The County says this is the largest solar project in the area.
The 1.2 megawatt ground-mounted solar field is expected to generate enough electricity to avoid 74 million pounds of carbon dioxide, removing 375 gas powered cars from the road annually.
The solar field is expected to save the County an estimated $6 million over the 20-year lifespan of the system.
In the three years the County has taken on the sustainability initiative to procure 20 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, they have now developed a total of two megawatts of solar energy so far.
