Film Festivals continue to go virtual and the Albuquerque (Virtual) Film Fest is following suit.
The local festival will present eight contemporary films from Israel, United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Italy, Argentina, France/Egypt.
According to Phyllis Wolf, director of Arts, Culture & Education at Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque, tickets are on sale for the films, which will screen Sunday, Jan. 31 through Feb. 28.
“Each year, the fest endeavors to weave a colorful fabric of uniquely Jewish stories that come to us through movies from around the world,” she says. “That mission is unchanged, and this line up is particularly noteworthy for its diversity in content, themes and countries of origin. The only thing that’s different is that instead of the community gathering at theatrical venues, we will be watching the fest movies in the safety and comfort of our own homes. We will get together for follow-up conversations with the filmmakers, virtually, using
The ninth Boulder Jewish Film Festival is thrilled to pay tribute to documentary filmmaker Pierre Sauvage, as well as to honor his lifelong dedication to Holocaust education and memorialization, in a special six-program series. Described by Tablet Magazine as “a filmmaker of rare moral perception,” Sauvage has consistently probed questions of moral choice, focusing on the magnitude of humanity’s failure during the Holocaust by underscoring what it was possible to do.
Sauvage was honored in 2018 with similar retrospectives at the Paris Mémorial de la Shoah and in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon. The exclusive BJFF tribute program includes two special live events and four talkbacks. The closing event Q&A will focus on “
Dear Friends,
So much has happened since we were so rudely interrupted mid-festival last March! We are all a little worse for wear, but I hope this letter finds you and yours well – and looking forward to the 9th Annual Boulder Jewish Film Festival as much as I am.
The 2021 festival will be a virtual affair, and I wanted to let you know what that will look like. Luckily for us, dozens of festivals have pivoted to virtual since March, and we have had the benefit of their experience to draw on as we plan an exciting and user-friendly program for you. While we will miss gathering together at the Dairy to share a social cinematic experience, our online event offers many distinct advantages.
Four things in Wilmington (in-person and virtual) to celebrate MLK Day
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is historically a time to reflect on the late Civil Rights leader and his thoughts and goals for a better world during a time when society was changing and colliding.
And as issues such as racial injustice and more recently a Capitol Hill riot remain at the forefront, the anniversary of King s birthday on Friday MLK Day, however, observed Monday perhaps holds more meaning than ever.
So while some annual MLK Day events, such as the downtown parade, are canceled this year due to COVID-19, others have emerged online while a few in-person gatherings are scheduled with protocols such as social distancing.
