all right, bob. thank you. four days after the deadliest tornado on record hits joppa, missouri. more than 230 people are still unaccounted for. while the search pushes forward, there are some signs of recovery. joel brown reports for wjz from joplin. reporter: donations are pouring in to joplin, missouri. here we have baby food, diapers. food for adults. reporter: volunteers are handing out food and supplies to the thousands who lost everything, when the monster tornado hit. it s wonderful. everybody is coming together and feeding people. and it s just fantastic. puts a smile on your face, huh? yes, it does. reporter: crews are all around town, fixing power lines and downed attach poles. joplin is slowly trying to bring back some normalcy. justerate strait down there in the corn just straight down there in the corner. that s where we were at. reporter: tommy junkin and his sister sydney hid in the basement while the twister flattened their home. they
father, daniel kerrigan. we have startling news out of the justice department today for john edwardss. sources close to a federal investigation tell nbc news that authorities have given the go-ahead for prosecutors to proceed with criminal charges against the former presidential candidate. nbc investigative correspondent lisa miers is joining me with more on this story. good afternoon to you, lisa. what is this all about? what do prosecute beers live edwards did that would bring criminal conduct charges? sources with knowledge of the case say edwards is likely to be charged with violating campaign finance laws and illegal use of campaign contributions. this is basically about money provided by two wealthy supporters which was used to help cover up edwards affair with rielle hunter while he was running for president. more than $1 million was spent to keep hunter in hiding, for lavish homes, private jets, spending money. this money was not actually contributed to edwards campaign b
that daniel kerrigan died of heart disease. 46-year-old mark kerrigan convicted of assault and battery charges stemming from the fight back in january 10 2010. my family has never believed at all that my brother had anything to do with my father s death and he would my dad would never have wanted any of this. the family of bryan stow is suing the l.a. dodgers, beaten on opening day. the security cutbacks were partially to blame for the attack. the family seeks damages to cover stow s medical care. still in a coma. an arrest was made in the beating. elizabeth smart will confront her kidnapper for the first time when he is sentenced later today. smart is expected to speak at today s sentencing. she was 14 years old when
killing more than a dozen people. oklahoma city suburbs took a direct hit. this is just one damage path. andy would have lost her home. but she s just grateful her family is safe. our daughter is on a trip. she just graduated. and ouron son is at ocu. this is just stuff. god is looking out for us. reporter: they felt the same way at this joplin church. when the twister blew through, members were getting ready for evening services. 16 people huddled inside this small doorway and prayed. the windows were coming off. and we felt the breathe building move and, it was almost as if it were breathing. reporter: after the tornado, it s the only one of the well standing. now, church members are cooking meals and handing them out to the hundreds in this community who have lost everything. in joplin, missouri, joel brown, wjz, eyewitness news. the death toll in joplin, missouri, has topped 120. but search teams have not given up hope in finding those who survive. for
one perspective of a storm chaser, his encounter with one of the tornados in oklahoma. you can see the twister ripping pieces off that huge building in its path and the debris tossed everyw. let s go to nick walker for more on the path of this latest storm. nick what you tell us we have an update on the situation in kansas city. there was a tornado, tamron, that went through kansas city. damage reports spotty. we have had some reports south of town of some damage. kansas city no longer under that tornado warning but continuing to see the threat here as we get through the evening as more thunderstorms are off toward your west. the threat toward the north and the east here in northern and central portions of missouri. interstate 75. i tell you what, between columbia and kansas city, people need to park it, get off the road into, a sturdy building. numerous thunderstorms over the freeway and some may have tornadoes with them. we ve had reports of extensive damage around the se
