National Parks And Forests Ask Visitors To Plan Ahead With Busy Summer Expected

Credit Wallpaperslot.com Even in the height of the pandemic last summer, visitors came rushing to national parks and forests in Wyoming. Officials are preparing for an even crazier summer season this year. Grand Teton National Park's Denise Germann said that's great, but a lot of the visitors have little experience planning ahead for outdoor recreation "We're seeing people with new campers and RVs and camper vans," said Germann. "We're finding people that are putting up a tent for the first time. We're finding people that are recreating in bear country that have never been in bear country before." Germann said the lack of experience resulted in visitors not planning where to camp and would try to set up shop on the side of the road, which is illegal.

Grand Teton National Park sets visitation record for March

The flood gates are open and Grand Teton National Park is awash in visitors setting a new high mark for the month of March. March saw 74,754 recreation visits, nearly 25,000 more visitors than March 2020 which tallied 51,445. In 2019, March had 65,864 visitors. With continuing mostly dry weather, April is on track to also rack up big numbers. “We are seeing increased visitors using the Teton Park Road this spring,” said Denise Germann, park public affairs officer recently. “It may be a sign of what is to come this summer. Last weekend was one of the busiest we’ve seen in years.” The park also set a visitation record for the month of January with 66,585 visitors. February, a particularly stormy month, was down with only 53,108 recreational visitors.

County, park, nonprofit up ante for pricey bike path in Grand Teton

County Commissioners have joined Grand Teton National Park and Friends of Pathways in agreeing to pay more than planned toward a $2.26 million pathway just west of the Gros Ventre roundabout. “I’m really appreciative of their commitment to partnering with the park and with Friends of Pathways,” Katherine Dowson said of the board’s decision. Dowson is executive director for Friends of Pathways. “I think the commissioners have really committed to the goals of their comprehensive plan and making sure people have comfortable choices for walking and biking,” she said. “That seems to be well supported by all the commissioners right now.”

Heli guide's Teton park overflights trigger complaints, investigation | Environmental

Grand Teton National Park officials recently tried and failed to get federal aviation officials to crack down on a scenic helicopter tour pilot who promised last year to not overfly the park, but has made a habit of flying low over the federal property’s southeastern reaches. The operator in question, Wind River Air owner Tony Chambers, maintains he’s only flying over the national park when he’s coming into or leaving Jackson Hole Airport — and especially beelining it out when he has sightseeing clients aboard. But Teton Park and the airport have been receiving an earful from community members displeased to be seeing and hearing helicopters over portions of Jackson Hole and the national park that have lacked commercial chopper clatter until now.

Jackson Hole police blotter, April 7

Grand Teton National Park rangers got complaints Saturday afternoon about a group of cyclists and roller skaters “playing loud music and partying” and possibly littering on the park road. According to spokeswoman Denise Germann, rangers spoke to the roller disco party crowd and gave people verbal warnings. The road is closed to cars for spring biking, so many residents have been enjoying the warming weather by biking the temporarily car-free roadway. Police were called Friday night to the Lodge at Jackson Hole to break up what callers said was a noisy “frat party” going on at the hotel. Officers ended up citing 13 college students for being minors under the influence. They arrested two other teenagers for underage drinking and possession, Jackson Police Sgt. Russ Ruschill said. Officers presumed the teens were in Jackson for spring break and also confiscated some marijuana and paraphernalia.

Teton goats down to 29

Aggressive efforts to hunt the Teton Range’s nonnative mountain goat population out of existence are having the desired effect: As few as 29 animals remain. That count of the sure-footed, white-coated animals was the result of a two-day Wyoming Game and Fish Department aerial Teton Range survey that also found 90 native bighorn sheep, the species that’s supposed to benefit from the goat eradication effort. “I was happy we counted 90 sheep,” Game and Fish Jackson Region wildlife biologist Aly Courtemanch said. “That shows that the herd is hanging on, but I still have concerns about that bighorn sheep population.” All of the 29 exotic goats Courtemanch found were in Grand Teton National Park, and there were just four kids she was able to tally. The count suggests that the population of the exotic goats is definitely on the downswing, which is expected following two straight years of intensive hunting and volunteer culling both inside and outside of the park. The mid-winter 2020 survey, which was interrupted by weather, found evidence of 56 goats. In 2019, Game and Fish’s survey counted 88 goats.
