In the operation, deputies and detectives eradicated over 5,300 marijuana plants, totaling over five and a half tons of plants by weight. Investigators also found an illegal electrical bypass and seized approximately 38 pounds of processed marijuana packaged for sales. Two suspects, Chong Thao, 31, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Cho Yang, 31, of Fresno were arrested at a location near El Bandido/ Brant Crossing Road for illegal marijuana cultivation and sales.

The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) gathered last night via Zoom for a nearly two-hour meeting where the main topic was illegal pot farms.
Captain Luke Niles from the Morongo Basin Sheriff station explained the sheriff’s effort and how it runs parallel to the county’s Narcotics Division. Local sheriffs have served 34 search warrants since the start of the year and the Narcotics Division has served 30. Since March 17, the sheriffs have spent 1,200 man hours serving these warrants and have seized 33,000 pot plants.

The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) will gather online tonight and included on the agenda is the explosion of illegal marijuana grows in the area. Wonder Valley Delegate Steve Reyes will present on this issue and MAC members will discuss Resolution No. MB-MAC021 that offers support for Supervisor Dawn Rowe and the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department. The resolution requests more funding and additional code enforcement personnel to tackle the issue.

Defeating Desert Heights Prep Academy on Tuesday, April 13 was nice for Sedona Red Rock High School’s baseball team. It ended a two-game funk, which saw SRRHS outscored by a combined score of 28-4. But Sedona knew that the Friday, April 15 game against Scottsdale Prep Academy would be the real test. The test was passed.
Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputies raided 10 illegal marijuana grows in the Desert Heights neighborhood of Twentynine Palms Friday and Saturday. Between 8 a.m. Friday and 3:20 p.m. Saturday, deputies served search warrants at locations on Two Mile Road, Bellerue Road, Indian Trail, Morongo Road, Nandina Street, Meldora Avenue, Canyon Road, Rogers Lane, and Giant Rock Avenue. The Sheriff’s Department said more than 10,400 plants (weighing more than six tons) were seized and six arrests were made. There were no weapons or other drugs at any of the locations.
