Gordon E. “Gordie” McCormick, 67, of Williamsport died unexpectedly Sunday, April 25 2021 at home.
Born September 3, 1953 he was a son of the late Emily (Mathias) McCormick and Donald McCormick.
Gordie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. He had an entrepreneurial spirit, was an avid Steelers fan, a connoisseur of fine brandy and enjoyed cracking open a cold one. Gordie had a zest for life and was befriended by many. He was genuine, giving and his heart was as big as his smile. He had the ability to empathize in any situation and impart some wisdom from his unique world view. His likeable, fun-loving personality and willingness to lend a hand will certainly be missed.

Wilma Genevieve Pitzer, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility. Born in Gerrardstown, WV, April 17, 1926, she was the daughter of Howard and Daisy McCormick Pitzer. She lived her entire life on the family property with her parents and aunts who operated McCormick’s Store, which was established by her grandfather, Richard McCormick.
Since January 2018, she had remained in her home under the excellent care of Home Helpers Home Care of Martinsburg.
Employed as a bank teller at Merchants and Farmers Bank in Martinsburg, she retired from the branch in Inwood after a long career. She was a trusted and meticulous treasurer who served in that capacity for the Gerrardstown Presbyterian Church and for the Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery for many years, and for the organizations in which she was a member. In 1974 a friend gifted me John Le Carre’s book Tinker, Tailor, soldier, Spy adding that it would be difficult to understand unless I knew how spies worked. Although I joined that ‘business’ in 1976, it would still take a long time for me to understand the nuances of Cold War spy scrimmages. From then on, it was a long journey for me till 2017 when “Outlook” asked me to review Le Carre’s last “Smiley” novel, “A Legacy of Spies” (“A Coven of Spy Masters”, September 29, 2017).
