Queen marks Philip's 100th birthday by planting rose named after him | Richmond and Twickenham Times

The Queen has poignantly marked what would have been the Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday with the planting of a newly-bred rose named after her beloved late husband. The monarch received the gift from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and watched it placed in the Windsor Castle gardens last week to commemorate Philip’s centenary on Thursday. The Queen described the Duke of Edinburgh Rose, which is deep pink, dappled with white lines and double-flowered, as “lovely” and the tribute as “very kind”. She was wearing sunglasses in the June sunshine and dressed in a summery blue dress with a white floral pattern, white cardigan and a string of pearls, and was holding a patterned silk scarf.

All of the Castles and Palaces Prince Philip Called Home

All of the Castles and Palaces Prince Philip Called Home Mary Elizabeth Andriotis Earlier today, Buckingham Palace announced the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. At 99 years old, Philip was the longest-serving consort of a British Monarch, his wife of 73 years, Queen Elizabeth II. Though Philip had somewhat of a turbulent and transient early life—his family was exiled from his native Greece when he was a baby and the Duke spent holidays from boarding school in a rotation of locations—his birth into the Greek and Danish royal families and subsequent marriage to a young Princess Elizabeth meant that he called some fairly remarkable residences home. Below, we’ve rounded up six dwellings the Duke of Edinburgh resided in from his birth in 1921 until his death in 2021.
