We will start with the incumbent, senator ed markey. He served massachusetts in the senate since 2013. Before that he served the seventh district in the house of representatives since 1976. We also welcome congressman joe kennedy. He served in 2013, and then as an assistant District Attorney. We are following social distancing guidelines during the debate. Everyone including the candidates are spread out more than six feet apart, and our panelists are not in the studio with us. They are in different coat different places in the media center. Authorities have identified mica johnson as the sniper who pulled off the worst attack on Law Enforcement since the 9 11 terror attacks. Thats him on your screen. At this moment, police are searching the home of the 25yearold. He lived in a dallas suburb, heres an aerial shot. Investigators coming in, going out of the house, he and three accomplices, one a female, coldly picked off Police Officers during a peaceful black lives matter protest last night. Authorities say johnson told them, as they were trying negotiate, he targeted police. Thats him. As you see in the highlighted area. Calmly leaning behind a pillar and taking shots at police out of, quote, revenge for two killings of black men by police this week. You see him in the spotlight as you see firing away, he eventually after negotiations broke down was killed by a policecontrolled robot with an explosive device on it. Police performed heroicall
And we begin with breaking news from dallas. An ambush on police after snipers opened fire during a protest march. Heres what we know right now. 11 officers were shot. At least five of them are dead. Six are seriously injured and one bystander was hurt in all of this. So far police say they have three people in custody and overnight they cornered a fourth person in a parking garage who exchanged gunfire with police. The demonstration through the downtown area had been peaceful until the gunfire triggered fear and panic sending people running for cover. [ gunfire ] oh, my god. Theyre they cant be firing. Oh, my god. Just listen to that barrage of gunfire that took place there in the heart of dallas last night. Absolutely unbelievable to hear that. The woman who shot that video said she was scared when she heard that. Understandably so. Roughly six hours after that the standoff with the remaining suspect is now over. We are coming on the air now because president obama is about to speak, addressing for the first time that ambush shooting of 11 Police Officers in dallas overnight. Five of those officers have died, making this the deadliest day for Law Enforcement since 9 11. It all began to unfold around 9 00 p. M. Overnight during a black lives matter protest of the shooting in louisiana and minnesota. You see the commotion there. At one point during the protests, snipers open fire on Police Officers, sending protesters running. Three of those suspects are now in custody. A fourth is reportedly died in a shootout with police or after a shootout with police on the scene. I want to go to Adrienne Bankert on the scene right now where that shootout occurred.
