3 residents, 1 firefighter injured in house fire
ELKHART, Ind. Two adults, a child and a firefighter were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation on Sunday, according to the Elkhart Fire Department.
The fire department responded to the home in the 1800 block of Oakland Avenue at 6:15 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they located heavy black smoke coming from the front windows of the 2 story home and a person on the roof.
The person on the roof was rescued and informed firefighters her child was on the first floor of the home.
Firefighters entered the home and quickly found the child and an adult.

ELKHART, Ind. A car drove into of the Elkhart Fire Department before leading police on a chase, according to Elkhart Police.
On January 29 at 5:45 p.m., a Dodge Grand Caravan crashed into the fire station’s front entrance then took off, police said.
Officers located the van at the intersection of Main and Marion streets before it drove away once again, down Beardsley Avenue, police said.
The van then struck a Nissan Altima before hitting a utility pole, police said.
The driver of the van and two passengers in the Altima were transported to the hospital.
