New game, new rules: Shortly before the Cleveland Indians held their home opener Monday afternoon, Gov. Mike DeWine’s administration lifted attendance capacity limits for Progressive Field and other outdoor venues. However, as Jeremy Pelzer explains, seating capacity will likely remain below pre-pandemic levels because of ongoing social-distancing restrictions. The DeWine administration’s new health order also allows festivals, parades, proms, graduations, county fairs, and other mass gatherings in Ohio to once again be held so long as proper coronavirus health precautions are followed.

Dismayed and disappointed: Lt. Gov. Jon Husted’s recent tweet that referred to the “Wuhan virus” and his ensuing defense of his use of the term has left many Asian Americans in Ohio feeling dismayed and disappointed in their leadership. Seth Richardson talked to a number of them who “didn’t feel his explanation – that he was attempting to criticize the Chinese government – sufficiently explained why he felt the need to use a term that many feel is, at the very least, unhelpful or, at worst, could lead to targeting people of Asian descent for violence,” Richardson writes.

HB-nixed: With little fanfare, Gov. Mike DeWine on Wednesday signed House Bill 128, which repeals the cornerstone of the scandal-ridden House Bill 6: a $1 billion-plus bailout of two Northern Ohio nuclear power plants. As Jeremy Pelzer reports, HB128 also repeals an HB6 “decoupling” provision that allows FirstEnergy Corp. to collect a comparatively high amount of money from customers, as well as a separate measure making it easier for FirstEnergy to pass state limits on significantly excessive profits.
Return policy: FirstEnergy says that, as a result of HB128, it will refund $26 million to customers collected under its “decoupling” policy. As Pelzer explains, the Akron-based utility said it will work with state regulators to determine how much money each customer will get, along with how and when they will get it.
