Public health guidelines to protect against COVID-19 are going to be much easier to implement in schools this academic year compared to the 2020-21 school year, said Heather Armelino, the superintendent of the Enterprise Elementary School District.
For now, students no longer have to stay in the same groups all day, distance themselves, or wear masks outdoors.
Students and staff are only mandated to wear masks indoors when they go back to school in August, according to California Public Health Guidance for K-12 schools.
If families are opposed to their children wearing masks in schools, they have an option to choose independent learning, Armelino said. Families who choose this option will essentially have their kids in distance learning every day in grades K-3 and once a week with daily check-ins for grades 4-8, she said.

Firefighters are warning North State residents not to set off fireworks during their Fourth of July celebrations, as California faces a horrid start to another wildfire season.

And when something goes wrong and fire crews have to be dispatched, it stretches first response resources thin, Redding Fire Investigator Guido Concello said. These calls can pull us away from other emergencies, whether that s a 911 medical emergency or assisting other agencies on these campaign fires, he said.
As of Thursday, fourteen large wildfires were burning in the state, and eight of those were in the North State. Included are the Lava, Tennant and Beswick fires in Siskiyou County, Salt Fire north of Redding and Sky Fire in Butte County.
