The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams are back at home Friday when they welcome the West Branch Bears to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Golden Hawk girls are 9-9 on the season and 8-8 in the River Valley Conference after a 43-38 loss to Wilton on Tuesday. In that game, Mid-Prairie was led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 16 points and Myah Lugar’s 13 points. On the season, Nonnenmann leads the Hawks with 14 points and seven rebounds per game. Amara Jones has the team lead with four assists and three steals per night.
West Branch comes into the contest with a record of 13-1 overall and in the RVC. The Bears are ranked No. 3 in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Last time out, the Bears beat No. 11 West Liberty 46-39 with future Bradley Brave Sasha Koenig putting up 28 points. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Wilton Tuesday for a River Valley Conference doubleheader and returned with a split. The Golden Hawk girls fell in the opener 43-38. Mid-Prairie got off to a tremendous start, opening the game on a 10-0 run, only to see Wilton answer with a 14-3 run, to take a 14-13 lead in the second quarter. The second frame belonged to the defenses, with each team scoring four to leave Mid-Prairie on top 17-15 at half. While the Golden Hawk defense kept them in the game, the offense struggled, going scoreless for more than five minutes and more than 12 minutes with just one field goal in a stretch of the second and third periods as Wilton took a 27-20 lead. Late in the third, Mid-Prairie got on track as Myah Lugar knocked down the first of four consecutive three point goals to get the Hawks within 27-23. The Golden Hawk girls come into the night with an 8-7 record on the year after a 38-33 Senior Night win over Tipton Tuesday. In the victory against the Tigers, the Hawks were led by Maddie Nonnenmann with 13 points and Phelan Hostetler with 11. On the year, Mid-Prairie is paced by Nonnenmann at 13 points and seven rebounds per night. Amara Jones is averaging four assists and three steals per game.
Camanche is 3-12 on the season. The Indians were beaten Tuesday 52-33 by Cascade. For the year they are led by Aubrey Carstensen at eight points and six rebounds per game. These two teams met a year ago with the Golden Hawks winning 51-29 in Wellman.

The Golden Hawk girls are 7-7 overall, 7-6 in the River Valley entering tonight after a 66-48 loss to No. 9 West Liberty on Friday where they were led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 16 points and 10 from Myah Lugar. For the season, the Golden Hawks are paced by Nonnenmann at 13 points and six rebounds per game. Amara Jones averages four assists and three steals per game.
Tipton enters play with a 4-8 overall record. The Tigers are 2-7 in the River Valley. They have been off since the 11th when they beat up on Calamus-Wheatland 55-25 behind a 25 point 18 rebound double double from Rachel Biermann. On the season Biermann leads the Tigers at 15 points, 10 rebounds and two steals per game. These two teams met in December with Mid-Prairie taking a 58-30 win on the road.
