and gave a look to manchin and he sat down. bill: i think the election boils down to three things. if the republicans can sell a message of tax cuts, a good, stable economy and stability in north korea not a resolution, but they aren t firing off rockets and they aren t testing nuclear weapons. i tend to agree with that. here lies the problem. gas prices at the pump as we enter the summer driving season are through the roof. this ideal of a tax that would prime up the economy is working for some but not working for everybody. it is not working in urban areas like nashville or memphis where people of color and working-class families aren t getting those opportunities. look at the unemployment from the minorities. what are you talking about? that s where this president will have trouble is convincing people the economy is better when gas prices are so high.
i just want to say to the congressman, look, you can talk about these individual instances. we just had president-elect go on television and say he wants to deport 2 million to 3 million people here in the future. a lot of families aren t sure what that means, if their loved ones are going to be ripped away from them. you have a lot of people on health care who do not know where their health care system is going on, if they can count on it. you have had outbreaks of anti-semitism on social media that have made jews in this country very, very was in. there are big-picture things that are affecting the way people live in this country, how safe they feel, how secure they feel. and if you ve got a population, many of them are frightened. i believe it s the president s responsibility to address that. well, first of all, he s not in a bubble. he hasn t even moved into the white house yet, so i didn t say he was in a bubble. you can still be in a bubble. as the guy who traveled th
anquished families aren t the only ones waiting. insurers are also waiting. some families have received $20,000 in insurance to help them pay for hotels and go to where their loved ones may be missing. insurers could be on the hook for more. the airline industry spends billions of dollars an planes, fuel, maintenance and insurance. a 777 like the malaysia airlines jet that disappeared likely carries a $2 billion policy. that insures the plane itself. it also includes liability for passengers in case something happens. 239 people aboard a giant aircraft that disappears into the night. government officials still piecing together information.
the bipartisan bill that passed out of the senate. i genuinely believe that speaker boehner and a number of house republicans folks like paul ryan really do want to get a serious immigration reform bill done. if the speaker proposes something that says right away folks aren t being deported, families aren t being separated, we re able to attract top young students to provide the skills or start businesses here, and then there s a regular process of citizenship. i m not sure how wide the divide ends up being. that s why i don t want to prejudge it. i just wonder if you see this at all in terms of especially the pathway to citizenship in the way that you seemed to when you were passing health care reform and i was covering it, the public option. in other words, it would be great, in your view, if you could do it. it s not going to happen and there might be some expectation setting you have to do, because i, having reported on this, i don t think house republicans
