The seed of Lindsey Erin Larsen-Myer’s mixed-media floral creations for her new exhibit “We Have a Story to Tell” was planted years ago while she was studying vanitas and allegorical paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries.
“Vanitas are the floral designs and still lifes with the skulls, and the allegorical paintings were full of florals and things that conveyed moral messages to people,” said Larsen-Myer, known professionally as Lindsey Erin. “And I remember sitting in a lecture hall coming up with the notion of contemporizing this concept.”

Outdoor Design & Living’s owner, Chris Palmer, is thrilled to showcase his first-year partnership with Sarah O’Brien’s floral studio, Fresh Flower Bar, as well as his expansive nursery and landscape services. After opening the small building in Salem Township to sell coffee and gifts more than three years ago, everyone in the family-owned business never had conversations about adding a drive-thru.
Then COVID-19 arrived. Commuter traffic between Ann Arbor and South Lyon that would usually stop at the business at 5241 N. Territorial for a morning cup of coffee dissipated. After remaining closed for the first three months of the pandemic, the shop reopened last summer, but without that regular flow of customers.
Looking at ways to keep busy with customers coming to the shop, they decided the pandemic was reason enough to add a drive-up window.
