The charity in august. It sits right next to the worker house, but it needs some improvements. So last summer the catholic worker house held a fundraiser at the quarter barrel arcade and brewery to help pay for those improvements. So far this year, the nonprofit has helped more than 250 families. Kcrg tv nines phil reed looked at the house today and joins us now. Phil what is the catholic worker house going to do with it . Beth, its board of directors decided lat shelter. A family is normally allowed only 90 days to stay at the catholic worker house. During that time they are expected to find a job and permanent housing. But some families cant do that in three months. So the extended shelter will give three families at a time an extra six months to get back on their feet. Some of them are at the united way of east central iowa. There, about a dozen from the around 30person work force would qualify for the new overtime rule. Even though a judge has put things on hold, united way has gone ahead and made the change for employees. Officials said given the amount of prep time needed, they decided to be proactive. Theyve put in place an electronic timekeeping system to better keep track of hours. Even if the rule never takes effect, united way thinks change. Weve already made changes on the Tec
