Food Trucks Rally Local Taste Buds to Turn Titletown into Flavortown By Casey Nelson

ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) â People were flooding Ashwaubomay Park Thursday night, as local food trucks lined up to serve some of the best cuisine the Green Bay area.
The Green Bay Food Truck Coalition took over the park with nine trucks dishing out generous serving sizes. Pat Joyce operates the Taste of Ethiopia truck, and he says Green Bayâs scene isnât quite up to par with others around the country. At least, not yet.
âWeâre trying to raise the bar here in Green Bay. Weâre about ten years behind the rest of the country, I think, but itâs really catching on,â Joyce said. âWhere else can you go and walk from truck to truck and taste different cuisines of different parts of the world? Most of this gourmet, made-to-order food, so I think itâs a big plus for the community to have this many trucks.â

Do farmers feed the world? In one sense, absolutely. But farm products go through a vast and complex system before they are consumed. Today we’ll learn about an entrepreneurial Kansas farmer who increased his product’s value by taking it directly to the consumer.
Last week we met Leon Winfrey, who farms and runs an outfitting business in southwest Kansas. Years ago, he was in his tractor listening to Paul Harvey on the radio and heard an ad with a line stating that “farmers feed the world.” Leon thought to himself, “I don’t feed the world. I feed my banker, and the fertilizer company, and the seed company.” His crop income was going entirely to pay these high-cost suppliers, and corn prices were low.
