Letter: Weaving the fabric of our community

Recently, we have been introduced to a familiar concept, using somewhat unfamiliar and new terminology — weaving the fabric of community (David Brooks, "The Second Mountain").

Los Rocosos Vineyards opens for tastings

MILTON-FREEWATER — The opening of the tasting room at Los Rocosos Vineyards was originally scheduled for the spring of 2020, but was postponed because of the global pandemic. Owner Roger Lemstrom said the unexpected delay was a boon to the vineyard. It allowed for the bottling of several new varietals, bringing the total to nine offerings for 2021. Lemstrom, who recently opened up to drop-in guests, handles tastings and sales. Los Rocosos has tastings Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 84038 Eastside Road, Milton-Freewater. Other times and special events can be coordinated by appointment. Los Rocosos Vineyards also plans on installing a charging station for electric vehicles.

Pendleton Pride gets ready to stride with Pride March

Four-month grant program would give $5K per month to Pendleton restaurants

And a price tag. Following up on a Jan. 12 presentation with Pendleton Economic Development Director Steve Chrisman, Cheri Rosenberg, the CEO of the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce, returned to city council chambers on Tuesday, Jan. 19, with more details on what’s now being called the “Save Our Amazing Restaurants” relief program. Under the proposal, the city and its urban renewal district would spend $400,000 for the program. The program’s proponents argue that it wouldn’t just save a vital part of Pendleton’s business and tourism community, but also avoid a significant drop in property tax revenue from the empty storefronts that would pop up if restaurants closed down permanently.
