New mayor, three city council seats at stake in North Augusta election

The future of North Augusta s biggest projects such as the new public safety headquarters and the development of Riverside Village may be determined by the people running in the upcoming municipal general election. Republicans Briton Williams and Stetson Corbitt, and Democrat Richard Adams are vying to replace Mayor Bob Pettit, who announced Dec. 14 that he would not be running for reelection. Williams and Corbitt will compete in the primary Feb. 9, and the winner will face Adams on April 27 in the general election. Three seats on the city council are up for grabs. There will be at least one new face as Councilman Fletcher Dickert is not running. The partisan primaries are also Feb. 9, with a runoff possible in the Republican race. Incumbents David McGhee and Pat Carpenter look to stay in office and face four challengers for three spots in the general election.
