Trump administration struggles to confront the deadliest drug crisis in U.S. history The president has called tackling the opioid epidemic a priority, but fentanyl overdose deaths continue to soar as federal resources fail to keep pace. Washington Post photo by Salwan Georges WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio - In a dungeon-like jail in the center of this depressed farming town, 18 women in orange-and-white-striped prison uniforms are crammed into a two-story cellblock. Many of them are withdrawing from fentanyl. The jail, built in 1884 to hold 24, now houses 55 men and women, a number that can swell to as many as 90. The inmates are sprawled on metal bunk beds and mattresses that line the floors as they wait for court appearances or serve time on low-level drug offenses.

GCPH, MHRB give vaccine resources for older adults - Fairborn Daily Herald

GCPH, MHRB give vaccine resources for older adults Staff report XENIA Ohioans ages 65 and older are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, as the Ohio Department of Health has moved into Phase 1B of its vaccination plan. However, vaccine demand currently far outstrips the supply. For older adults who are already under stress and isolation, the speed of the vaccine rollout can be frustrating. Because of this, both Greene County Public Health (GCPH) and the Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties (MHRB) are encouraging older adults to make a plan to get vaccinated, and to seek mental health care if they need to.

FPD to participate in crisis training By London Bishop - lbishop@aimmediamidwest.com FAIRBORN The Fairborn Police Department is among 11 Ohio agencies sending representatives to Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, hosted by the Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties (MHRB). Held Jan. 25-29, the five-day, 40-hour intensive training is internationally recognized as a best practice for law enforcement and first responders for crisis situations involving individuals with mental illness. While this training is typically held in person, this year’s training will be held online due to safety concerns during the pandemic. “Law enforcement are first responders to all kinds of crises. They are first on the scene and have to ascertain very quickly whether someone is a danger to themselves or others under pressure. When someone is in the middle of a mental health crisis, they may be out of touch with reality and unable to respond to police commands, whic
