Wife of Humana co-founder died from COVID-19 8 weeks after her 'soulmate'

Wife of Humana co-founder died from COVID-19 8 weeks after her 'soulmate' Share Updated: 6:38 PM EST Feb 22, 2021 WLKY Digital Team Share Updated: 6:38 PM EST Feb 22, 2021 Hide Transcript Show Transcript it's another hard one for May somebody I, uh, new and know their family and somebody who you've already seen her husband memorialized. So today we're sharing the loss of Gladys Pass, who passed away from Cove in 19 on February the 10th at the age of 94. Her death came just eight weeks after her soulmate and husband of 74 years, Louis Sunny Bass, passed away from the virus. They were like peas and carrots together, and his loss left her heartbroken. Gladys was born in Lexington. She went to Henry Clay like I did It was the youngest of eight Children. She attended the University of Kentucky before meeting Sonny in Cincinnati. It was love at first sight, and they decided to build a beautiful life together. She effortlessly managed a busy household while encouraging sunny throughout his many endeavors in life. If when Sonny and his partner started Heritage House Nursing Home in 1961 the predecessor of Humana, you could find Gladys mopping floors vacuuming or working the front desk in order to get their nursing home open. She was the ultimate hostess and entertainer. The best household was always a hub of activity. Along with Sonny. She was a huge University of Louisville fan and supporter over the years of Louisville community, and you have elopement recipients of the passes generous spirit she and Sonny provided C. I need money for the Bass Road Tennis Center and the Gladys and Louis Sunny Bass Family Scholar house, which is a really special place. Gladys was the sweetest, most caring and loving woman, the matriarch that kept the foundation of the vast family strong. Her friends and family always knew how much they were loved. Bass family shared that. They're grateful they were able to keep Gladys at home until she peacefully passed away so would not have been possible without family members pitching in Michelle and Larry Smith, who are wonderful caregivers and friends for many years, all of the 24 7 caregivers with Ellen Javi at JB Medical Consultants, all who pampered her to her final days and Dr a Caramel person. Gladys is loving spirit, beautiful smile and unending patients bless this world for 94 great years, and we're all better for it. She taught us to love unconditionally live like life to the fullest and eat a piece of chocolate at every meal. I learned about this one pretty soon after it happened with a text from her son, a friend of mine. It was the second text that I had received on him losing a parent. Kobe has been hard on all of us and to lose not just one, but two members of your family. Whether it's your parent or grandfather and great aunt uncle is so difficult on DSO to their family. Emily, um, we're thinking about you. We care about you. Your loss is our loss. And today it's fitting. I guess that someone that I know is the memorial. Because we now all know someone. This country has now lost 500,000 Americans now, more than that to the coronavirus, it is an almost unimaginable loss. Worse than any war we fought. The tragedy that is this virus is very, very riel. And while we have, you know, good news about the direction things were going and we and we all ought to feel that and we're gonna emerge from this with, um, a lot of scars inside and out and a lot of feelings that we're gonna have to express. Um as we go coming out of this. And so let's all remain compassionate. Let's all remember that we've gotta love one another and be patient with one another. As as while I hope that we are months away, I still hope summer for the end of this virus. It's gonna take a little longer for our collective grief to be processed.
