'Working toward normalcy': Hesperia Unified reopens elementary campuses to full-time instruction
Victorville Daily Press
Nearly 8,200 elementary students in the Hesperia Unified School District have returned to in-person instruction full time after more than a year of mostly remote learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fifteen elementary schools in the district transitioned back to on-campus instruction five days a week on Monday. With that said, HUSD's model is still considered hybrid due to a distance-learning option that remains available, Assistant Superintendent Robert McCollum told the Daily Press.
“We’re trying to maximize as much time as we can with the kids and our elementary teachers who are — as of today — taking it up a notch,” McCollum said. “We’re going to try to take advantage of the last 24 to 25 days that we have with them. A day with face-to-face instruction is critical for our students and teachers.”

The Oak Hills High School assistant principal arrested last week on suspicion of sexually abusing an underage girl pleaded not guilty Thursday afternoon, a day after his originally scheduled arraignment.
The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office charged Matthew Lin Johnson on Tuesday with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
The DA's office filed the charge under the name Matt Johnson.
Court records showed that Johnson, 42, of Apple Valley, appeared before a judge Wednesday by video, but the arraignment was not held as his "request to scratch" was "granted to allow retained counsel to appear," court records show.
