Voters at Town Meeting Tuesday evening authorized spending up to $357,500 for engineering and design services for a proposed expansion of the fire station in Northeast Harbor to house fire and EMS personnel and equipment. The vote was 46-18.
Tremont Town Meeting draws first-time and seasoned voters
TREMONT Residents chose a new member for the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday with 110 votes for Eric Eaton, three more than incumbent Kevin Buck.
Current Selectman Mike Mansolilli received 51 votes and there were 30 votes for David Campbell. Eaton will join the board at their next meeting on May 10 and serve a three-year term.
Voters also cast 142 ballots in favor of incumbent Keri Hayes for the Tremont Consolidated School Committee. There were 69 write-in votes for the open seat on that committee, 61 of which were cast for Eliza Bishop who won the vote. Hayes was also reelected to continue as a member of the High School Board of Trustees.
Fire/EMS facility, budgets, climate action go to voters
MOUNT DESERT Voters at the May 4 Town Meeting will be asked to approve spending up to $357,500 for engineering and other services related to designing the proposed addition to the Northeast Harbor fire station, which would house fire and EMS personnel and equipment.
The “drive in” Town Meeting will be held in the front parking lot at Mount Desert Island High School starting at 6 p.m.
If voters approve the fire/EMS funding, Hedefine Engineering & Design would be paid $305,000 for design, bidding and permitting services. Civil engineering firm Haley Ward would receive $25,000 for IT services; telecommunications provider Brown’s Communications would be paid $2,500; and there would be $25,000 to cover contingencies.
