Green belt development considered by BCP Council in a bid to build new homes

Green belt land in Throop and Holdenhurst has been put forward by developers FURTHER green belt development is being considered by BCP Council in a bid to build thousands of new homes. Even with a forecast of increased housing density and building heights in urban areas, the council predicts it will have a shortfall of 5,500 homes against the government-set target. As a result, it has agreed that every green belt site put forward by developers be included in its Local Plan consultation this summer. Councillor Mike Brooke, who heads up the working group overseeing the planning blueprint, said “at this stage, this is the only way forward”.

BCP election candidates are confirmed

Library image of a ballot box. THE candidates for May’s elections have been confirmed with the publication of the statement of nominated persons by BCP Council. Alongside the election for Dorset’s police and crime commissioner, two council by-elections will also take place on May 6 to replace the two councillors who died last year. No vote will take place for the new Throop and Holdenhurst parish council with all of the seven candidates automatically elected due to the low number of nominees. Five people will contest the police and crime commissioner election to replace incumbent Martyn Underhill who has announced he will not seek re-election in order to retire.
