He was picked late last night after a tumultuous day on capitol hill. Republicans spent most of the day voting to pick tom emmer as their nominee. And he is not exactly a house house name either, but he served in house leadership before. And that seems to be exactly the problem. Emmer was selected as next pick for speaker yesterday around lunchtime, but he was out before dinner. And that was mostly because donald trump knew too much about him. After e

are you doing it this way? but it feels like the people outside sometimes have a clearer view of what we re watching. the people inside, including the people who were there in the chamber, because i will never forget as long as i live the weird, glib tone that night when they came back after the crowd was cleared and was, like, hey, we re back to do our jobs. did you see what just happened? i think there are plenty of centrist democrats who have come around who have seen the light on what the modern republican party is. the problem is that the party has very little leverage over joe manchin who still seems to cling to this fantasy of the institution functioning. it was almost shocking to see his shock at this not passing. it was, like, as if that scene in casablanca that the inspector was stunned when gambling was going on. you have to hope as one of after another after another of these bills shows that he s worried about destroying the senate.
and those rules of decorum fall away, the rules also have to change to keep the institution functioning? i see your point. and conservatives who feel very strongly about james madison and the fact that power should counteract power and the best laws and policy come out of huge conflict forget that the other part of madison was, you have to have negotiation, compromise, and people are talking, and you don t have a situation where you have this kind of a deadlock. as a study of both leaders and also institutions in our political history, what do you make of the threats from the republicans that democrats will rue the day this will come back and hurt them more than they can ever hurt republicans with what they ve done today? i think you ll have to look very hard in 200 years of american history where there s been a mass movement protesting a change in senate rules. maybe you can find one, rachel, but i can t do it. if it would happen, it would definitely be around the rachel madd
