(WMBF) - The Myrtle Beach Police Department sent its thanks to a young boy after receiving a touching tribute to one of their brothers in blue. MBPD shared on social media that it received a message from a young man named Matthew that was sent to Chief Amy Prock. The department said Matthew, also known as “Star Lord” after the popular Marvel character, shared his condolences for the loss of Ofc. Jacob Hancher.

The organization honors law enforcement and first responders from across the country through one-mile runs by 12-year-old Zechariah Cartledge, as well as through grants to officers and deputies injured in the line of duty.

(WMBF) - A nonprofit is now providing extra help to an officer with the Myrtle Beach Police Department who was injured in a shooting last October. Wangstad had served for one year with MBPD prior to the shooting, according to officials. Running 4 Heroes is based around 12-year-old Zechariah Cartledge, who runs with a flag to honor fallen officers across the country. The organization also says he will travel to Myrtle Beach this weekend to personally present Wangstad with the check.

(WMBF) – Members of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division said its investigation into a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a Myrtle Beach police officer last fall is continuing. A SLED spokesperson said in an earlier version of this story the agency had wrapped up its investigation into the death of Myrtle Beach Police Pfc. Jacob Hancher. Shortly thereafter, a member of the agency’s Freedom of Information Act office said a mistake by their office led to the earlier announcement that the case had been closed.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One Concord, North Carolina, police officer was killed and a second officer was wounded when they confronted a carjacking suspect in a restaurant parking lot late Wednesday, according to the Concord Police Department. The suspect was later shot and killed by officers, the department said. Concord officials identified the fatally shot officer as Jason Shuping, 25, who had been with the department since 2019. The wounded officer was identified as Kaleb Robinson, 23. His injuries are non-life threatening, officials said.

(WMBF) - The Myrtle Beach Police Department hosted a book drive in memory of fallen officer Jacob Hancher. Organizers said they were inspired to hold the event by Hancher’s love for his community. Friday was the final day of the book drive. Hancher was killed in the line of duty on Oct. 3 while responding to a call for service.
