A report by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) has revealed that the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) is set to deploy drones and other technology for attacks in the Lake Chad Basin. The report stated that weaponising and adapting unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is a new trend in the ISWAP’s operational strategy, and could worsen the conflict as it might change the conflict dynamics and give the violent extremist group the upper hand against its victim countries.
