Meanwhile, a number of countries have already outlined plans for vaccine passports.
As a result airlines including easyJet have reported a "surge" in bookings.
Yet with uncertainty ahead, travellers may be hesitant to confirm plans for future travel.
What are the latest updates from TUI, British Airways (BA), easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2?
TUI
The airline says it will contact impacted customers directly.
In a statement on its website, TUI explained: "Please rest assured, if your holiday has been cancelled, we’ll be contacting you soon to discuss your options.
"If you booked online, your booking information in Manage My Booking will be updated as soon as possible, too.
TUI has cancelled all its package holidays until May 17.
Andrew Flintham, Managing Director TUI UK and Ireland, said in a statement: “In line with the UK Government’s latest lockdown announcement, all TUI holidays from England will not operate before May 17.
"We will be contacting impacted customers directly, in departure date order, to discuss their options, which will include amending to a later date with an incentive or cancelling and receiving a full refund.
“We know our customers are looking forward to their holidays, so to offer continued flexibility and reassurance, we have extended our free changes policy to the end of June.
easyJet
easyJet has cancelled all holidays in response to the news from the Government but flights continue to operate.
The tour operator has also launched is spring 2022 sale today.
"As we have done throughout the pandemic, we continue to review and adjust our flying schedule in line with the latest Government travel restrictions," said easyJet.
"This means that as the UK government has indicated that international travel will not return before mid-May we are now making cancellations for that period.
"For flights that are cancelled customers will be notified directly and provided with their options, which include transferring to an alternative flight free of charge, a voucher for the value of the booking, or a refund. "
easyJet holidays
easyJet holidays has cancelled all package holidays up to and including March 24 in line with current lockdown and travel restrictions.
The airline has not yet said whether any holidays will be impacted beyond this point.
Customers who have had their holiday cancelled by the operator will be contacted directly and provided with three options.
They may either rebook their holiday for a new date and destination, accept a voucher that can be used towards further travel or request a full cash refund.
easyJet has said it is aiming to provide refunds in "an average of 12 days".
easyJet holidays said: "With safety and enjoyment front of mind we will cancel any holidays where the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against all but essential travel.
TUI
TUI cancelled many of its package holidays on January 5 following the news of a third national lockdown
TUI states on its website: "Due to the impact of COVID-19 and travel restrictions in place all TUI holidays up to and including March 7, 2021 have been cancelled.
"Customers will be contacted in departure date order to discuss their options, which will include amending to another holiday with an incentive or cancelling and receiving a full refund.
"We will constantly review our holiday programme in line with updated travel advice."
What's more, holidays due to depart on or before April 30, 2021, to Goa, India; La Palma, Canary Islands; Phuket, Thailand, The Gambia and Florida are also cancelled.

Jet2 continued: "Since the onset of the pandemic, we have always respected that customers should receive their money back if we have not provided their flight or holiday.
