Recently approved education appropriations from the Iowa Legislature include a 2.5% increase in funding for the state’s university system and prohibitions on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) offices at regent universities. The Senate passed an amendment to SF 2435, Iowa’s education budget bill for the upcoming year April 18. The bill allocates nearly $1 billion.
Iowa State hosted four candidates over the past month, one of whom will take over the role of provost when Provost Jonathan Wickert steps down this summer. Wickert, who will continue to teach at the university after his duties as provost, began at Iowa State as a professor in June 2012. Wickert is Iowa State’s.
David Wrobel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma, was named the fourth finalist to fill the role of provost, a position to be filled in the summer. Wrobel will visit campus Monday and Tuesday, participating in a campus forum at 3 p.m. Monday in the Alliant Energy-Lee Liu.
Jason Keith, dean of the Mississippi State College of Engineering, was named the third of four finalists to serve as provost, starting in the summer. Keith will visit campus Monday and Tuesday, participating in a campus forum at 3 p.m. Monday in the Memorial Union Sun Room. Keith earned a bachelor’s degree from the University.
