Connecticut’s Supreme Court wrestled Wednesday over whether a legal challenge to the governor’s emergency powers during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic is moot or an opportunity to legally vet them ahead of future crises.
Connecticut’s Supreme Court justices sharply questioned opposing lawyers over issues arising from Gov. Ned Lamont s emergency powers during the COVID pandemic.
The CT Freedom Alliance, representing 10 school children and their parents, sued the state Department or Education and Gov. Ned Lamont, arguing the mandate and the manner in which it was imposed violated both state law and rights protected by the state Constitution.
The Supreme Court in the past has given law enforcement some flexibility if police agencies can show they worked diligently to effect an arrest but were unable to serve an arrest warrant until after the statute of limitations for a crime had expired due to extenuating circumstances.
