Westminster student earns Drinko grant for production of short film \ Westminster College

Westminster College student Bethany Edwards earned an individual Drinko Center for Undergraduate Research grant to produce a short film “Another World.” Edwards,  a senior double majoring in creative media production and strategic communication and social media from Carnegie, Pa., used the grant to fund on-set production, character costumes and set design pieces for the film. “‘Another World’ is about the importance of storytelling and how it affects people’s lives,” said Edwards. During high school Edwards decided she wanted to explore a career in film and had the idea for a script about a woman meeting her favorite fictional characters. Through the Drinko grant, her idea was brought to life and produced at Moraine State Park, Buhl Mansion in Sharon, Pa., and other Pittsburgh area locations. “Film production is something I have been passionate about for a long time. Westminster team earns 'Best Student Film' at 48 Hour Film Festival \ Westminster College

A short film created by a team of Westminster College students for the fall 2023 Pittsburgh 48 Hour Film Project was selected as the competition’s Best Student Film. “Loose Grip,” produced by the team Give ’Em Props Productions from Kandice Hartner’s Single Camera Video class, earned the honor at the film project’s Best of Screenings and Awards Show on Oct. 29. The film was also nominated in the categories Best Use of Required Character and Best Leading Actor. The annual contest challenges teams to research, shoot and edit a short film in a single weekend. For the fall competition, the genre themes fall into two categories: horror and science fiction. Teams were provided guidelines and required elements and given just 48 hours to craft, shoot, edit and submit a four- to seven-minute film. Westminster entry earns Best Student Film honor at competition \ Westminster College

A short film created by a team of Westminster College students for the 2023 Pittsburgh 48 Hour Film Project was selected as the competition’s Best Student Film.   “Bee Careful,” produced by students in Kandice Hartner’s Digital Video and Cinema class, earned the honor at the film project’s Best of Screenings and Awards Show in May, which featured just 12 select films submitted for the competition. “Bee Careful” was also nominated in the categories Best Use of Character and Best Women Led Team.
