A different kind of desert is emerging across the valley affecting families from nearly every background and experts warn if things don t change soon the problem will continue to get much worse.
Even before the pandemic, finding good child care was a challenge for many parents. but things got much tougher.. when many day care centers closed, leaving parents to juggle working from home with taking care of their kids.
Right now, more than half of all Americans live in areas with insufficient child care, according to the Center for American Progress. That includes here in the Coachella Valley, where I-Team investigator Peter Daut discovered many families are desperate.

They can t find quality, affordable or even openings in child care right now, said Heidi McArthur, the owner of Jadabug s Kids Boutique in La Quinta.

Kicks & Giggles among small businesses hoping for promising tourism season
A glow of hope for a local business that look to flourish during is expected to be a busy tourism season.

“When things changed, our business model changed,” said Lisa Denherder.
Denherder owns Kicks & Giggles Baby and Kids Boutique in downtown Rapid City.
Like many small business owners trying to survive through the pandemic, the way of doing business for her changed.
Social media and online advertising have become the norm. Company websites are now an even larger part of a business plan.
Denherder says that’s actually helped her business.
Virtual celebration for new birthing center at Eisenhower Health set for Saturday
Eisenhower Health is set to open a state-of-the-art birthing center that doctors say will be a game-changer when it opens. It s not only a game changer for Eisenhower, it s a game changer for the entire Coachella Valley. It s really going to elevate the quality and safety of maternity care throughout the entire Coachella Valley, said Dr. Paul Mikel, medical director of the obstetrics unit at Eisenhower Health.
The 50,000 square-foot unit in Rancho Mirage will include 14 labor, delivery and recovery rooms along with an 8-bed newborn intensive care unit.
Young entrepreneur opens second business in Caldwell
Lakesha Huff s newest adventure is the West Street Coffee Bar

Young entrepreneur, Lakesha Huff, 29, has been working to fill the void of businesses missing in the small community of Caldwell.
In October, the Cambridge native opened Bottom Line Co. LLC. Women & Kids Boutique at 400 North St., and on March 1, opened the West Street Coffee Bar at 427 West St.
Prior to these business openings, there were no women s and children s clothing stores or coffee shops within a 30-mile radius of the area, according to Huff.
This is not Huff s first foray into the small business world. She operated a couple of Herbalife shake shops in 2016.
