Rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes has U-turned on his decision to return to the spotlight, announcing his withdrawal from the Huawei Joburg Day line-up and public appearances in general.
In a statement shared by AKA's management team, The T Effect, the rapper said he would not be performing at events in the near future.
Pumza Nohashe, his publicist, confirmed the withdrawal to SowetanLIVEs sister publication TshisaLIVE yesterday. “The hip-hop megastar has elected to take a step back from the musical eventing space because he is currently in a space where he feels it is necessary to place a greater emphasis on looking after his emotional and physical wellbeing.”

Anele “Nelli” Tembe, who was 22 years old, was remembered in a touching final send off by close friends and family at the Durban International Conference Centre on Friday.
Nelli, who was engaged to rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, died on Sunday morning after apparently falling from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town.
Due to Covid-19 safety precautions, attendance at the funeral was limited to 100 people, with only family and those chosen by the family allowed to attend in person.
AKA, who was among those who accompanied Nelli's body to Durban on Wednesday, was in attendance with his parents Lynn and Tony.
