Councillors vow to fight 'unacceptable' boundary changes

And as the area gets set for a by-election on July 1 a sense of identity and fierce loyalty has emerged. Coun John Lawson, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Kirklees Council and himself a councillor in Cleckheaton, spoke for many. He said: “Where has Spen gone? This proposal expunges Spen from the political map completely! “After a century or so of it being named in the constituency it looks like we’re expected to disappear quietly. “I can tell you now that’s not going to happen. Spen is where we live and it’s part of our identity. “To have our name scrubbed out like this is not acceptable.”

Plan for 43 homes is thrown out after work on access road remains unfinished

PLANS to build 43 homes in Heckmondwike have been thrown out after the developer failed to complete work on access roads. Officers with Kirklees Council said the failure to complete the first section of a four-phase roadworks scheme meant the the proposed estate at Park Farm, off Smithies Lane, would be “detrimental to highway safety” The site, which is within the Ponderosa Park complex and comprises of a number of industrial buildings, greenhouses and other buildings, last came before committee in August 2018 but dates back to 2015. Highways staff told the Heavy Woollen Planning Sub-Committee (Apr 14)  that work on Phase 1 had begun but not had not been completed. Workmanship was described as “incorrect” and not to standard, meaning the road could not be adopted by the council.

New Leadership Revitalizes Chattanooga's 1 Million Cups

New Leadership Revitalizes Chattanooga's 1 Million Cups Monday, April 5, 2021 Chattanooga’s 1 Million Cups has a new leadership team. The chapter is part of a national program that engages, educates and connects entrepreneurs on the local level. Founded by the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups is based on the notion that entrepreneurs network and discover solutions over a million cups of coffee. The free, weekly gathering helps build startup communities on a grassroots level. Entrepreneurs, innovators, funders and other interested community members are invited to attend each Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. The Chattanooga 1MC community is currently meeting via Zoom due to COVID-19. Weekly meetings will eventually be in person on the 5th floor of The Edney building at 1100 Market St., once it is safe to do so.

Aspiring pilot Mya among youngsters joining the cadets during lockdown - Case study

9 February 2021 Air Cadet Mya Larder pictured wearing her uniform for the very first time. Copyright RFCA 2021 The 12-year-old from Kirkburton, Huddersfield, is one of dozens young people from across Yorkshire who have become cadets during lockdown. Air cadets is fun – even virtually Mya who is a pupil at Kirkburton Middle School is enjoying all that her local unit, 868 (Mirfield) Squadron, has to offer, albeit virtually. We meet online once or twice a week and get to do things I would never get the chance of anywhere else. We’ve had a tour of the Houses of Parliament, talks about in-flight safety and we’ve even learned about space which was really exciting.
