when it is 90 degrees maybe i'll watch frozen. >> here we go but not right now. >> no, not at all. we have some clouds and couple spotty showers around. the not a big deal at all. temperatures continue to be mild. yesterday, 57 degrees very light wind. i don't have to tell you how beautiful it was yesterday. i hope you can enjoy it. not all that different today but we do bring in clouds and we bring in slightly cooler temperatures. we will bring in rain. it sound like it is a lot different. so let's push on. the let's head to the poconos right now and a temperature of 41 degrees up there. that is in the good for snow. they are not making it. split is. i'm sure it will be a comfortable skiing day heading in that direction. forty-four is the the temperature at the airport in philadelphia notice how mild these temperatures are. normally this time of the morning and this time of the year we should be in the 20's. but instead we are basking in the 40's and it is 50 degrees in wildwood. not bad for people who are fans, of warm weather. year round. especially in the winter. we have storm scan three showing some of these showers that have been moving on through. notice a couple once they have gone past allentown they will start to get heavier. very spot any nature through south injuries i a little bit more to the north but all of that is also moving out and then we will get a break and then we might be picking up a little bit more precipitation especially areas to the south. here is our future weather. i know it looks similar with the base map but we have moved on to the computer model which sort office okay to begin with but in the perfect. now, this is what hopefully is perfect and that is the lull that could becoming during the middle of the afternoon. the next impulse comes over from kentucky that moisture spreads into the area, we will start to see rain showers especially southern half of the viewing area as we go into this evening. you can see it is not a big deal at all just some showers out there, and that clears out, monday looks okay, tuesday looks okay at this point too. cold front, going on through so this will be the the last day of temperatures in the 50's, for this year and at least for the very beginning of the new year. we've got maybe 50 to 52 degrees today, front also through, showers go through, we will be left with sunny weather but i think you'll notice the chill. maybe heading home or somewhere, let me step out of the way and what are the the airport delays right now? not seeing any which is good news for anybody who want to get outside on time buzz obviously be a busy travel day, people heading back home from the christmas holiday so check with any airport. if you are driving, you just have to check with your spouse maybe a little argument there but when you want to leave but here's what the computer models say about when to leave. it says okay to day go anywhere you want. you might find rain showers moving in this evening to the south and then maybe even first thing tomorrow morning. so even if you are delaying your trip to the south you might see some rain showers but we are in the looking at troublesome travel at all, by tuesday, things looking pretty decent around here but you might be finding these lake effect streamers coming on down. otherwise, today, we have some cloud, we have some breaks in at least the showers scattered around. temperatures today 51 in philadelphia. fifty at the shore. poconos 45 degrees. new years eve making your plans and planning your outfit 28 degrees at midnight. these temperatures really are starting to come down. that is why we should bask in this 51 degrees wonder. today. tonight 38 degrees. we will keep an early scattered shower to the south tomorrow maybe a start with the the scattered shower to the south otherwise 45 degrees, partly sunny, tuesday 35 for the the high. wednesday is dry, 35. thursday, first day of the new year sunshine be pretty nice. we have had thought could there be some kind of a wet weather even on monday? it looks like that chance a has gone out to sea. we're not dealing with that. we've got dry weather coming up for the next couple of days. after we get rid of these pesky showers today, the few that we will see scattered around. 51 degrees in philadelphia. fifty at the shore. poconos 45 degrees. any of your scattered showers should be ending this morning and then drying out this. i think they will stay around longer along the shore areas. otherwise, our wind, they are not going to be a problem today, but the temperatures might be for you on new years eve. 28 degrees. we have certainly seen the weather change and we are going to continue to watch this change but today, kind of a transition day, getting us ready for things not being as ideal as they were yesterday 567891. wind west at five to 10 miles an hour. tonight we will drop down to 38 degrees cloud, maybe an evening shower in one or two spots especially to the south. otherwise, it looks like mess everybody tomorrow ending up at least partly sunny, 45 degrees. tuesday is chillier though at 35 degrees, mostly cloudy wednesday, mask. detectives are looking into the possible connection between the two crime scenes. philadelphia police tell us that a man who crashed his car in the city's lawn crest section is in stable condition right now. a woman who was a passenger in the car is in critical condition. the accident happened around 3:00 this morning on norse street. according to police at the scene, the car was speeding when it went through a backyard hit a column on the porch of the house, and then flipped over. the crash is now under investigation. this morning we are following a developing story overseas. the airasia flight that has disappeared with 162 passengers onboard. the search from the air has been suspended because it's nighttime there, but right now, a few ships are in the water near the java sea, looking for any sign of the missing jet. the plane took off from indonesia's surabaya airport and was on its way to singapore. nbc 10's matt delucia is following this morning's developments. he's live in the digital operations center for us. we understand we're now hearing from the airline's ceo? >> i've been keeping my eye on the twitter account for airasia's founder and ceo. he says right now the top priority is looking after the crew and passengers' next of kin. we do have a live picture that we've been monitoring here all morning. this is the singapore airport. this is where families have been gathering all night and all morning, waiting for updates from authorities. many of them in the video that i've been seeing this morning, they're very emotional and concerned about their loved ones, of course. here's what we know at this hour. airasia flight 8501 was about halfway to its destination in singapore when the pilot was apparently worried about bad weather. he asked air traffic control to change course and avoid clouds by turning left and going higher to 34,000 feet. that was the last communication before the air bus a-320 disappeared from radar. this was about 42 minutes into the flight and that was more than 12 hours ago. now, rescue teams, they searched for several hours overnight, and now aviation analysts are weighing in about the emergency response. >> the airlines and the authorities are acting properly. they've set up emergency centers. they've set up an emergency telephone line. and i think they've learned from the previous incidents and they are being very quick with information to the media and to passengers. >> again, 162 people onboard that flight. the airasia ceo is asking his staff to "pray hard", adding that this is his worst nightmare. again, right now no sign of airasia flight 8501. it disappeared about 7:30 last night our time. i'll be keeping my eye on the satellite feeds and the live pictures as they come in. for now, we're live in the digital operations center, i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. thanks for that update, matt. the disappearance of the airasia plane comes just ten months after a malaysia airlines jet disappeared. investigators have found no wreckage in that case but they think it crashed somewhere in the indian ocean. some call that disappearance of the jet one of modern aviation's most perplexing mysteries. now to another developing story overseas. crews on ships and helicopters are working right now to rescue nearly 500 people stranded on a ferry that caught fire off the greek island of corfu. the greek coast guard says they've rescued about 150 people, and at this point, at least not yet, no reports of any injuries. here are some photos from the scene, just into nbc 10. the ferry was headed for italy when the fire broke out on the car deck. the ship'ss have had a little trouble getting to the scene. as you can see from these pictures, the weather out there does not look great. we are going to continue to follow this story. as soon as we get any updates, we will share them with you. back in the u.s. this weekend, members of law enforcement from pennsylvania new jersey and delaware joined thousands from all over the country to say farewell to a fallen nypd officer. the funeral for officer rafael ramos was held at a queens new york church. he and his partner wenjian liu were shot and killed while they sat in their patrol car on december 20th. the gunman then killed himself. colleagues from far beyond new york city say they felt a sense of duty to attend yesterday's service. >> this is what law enforcement is about. it's about family brotherhood sisterhood. >> it really hits close to home. when you hear an officer has lost his life. >> after the service, the body of officer ramos was carried out of the church with family members of his slain partner standing by. some of nypd's officers watching on a big screen outside the funeral turned their backs to mayor bill de blasio. they say the mayor has contributed toward a climate of mistrust. inside the service, though, deblastde de blasio was greeted warmly. >> all of this city is grieving and grieving for so many reasons, but the most personal is that we've lost such a good man. >> both ramos and liu have been posthumously promoted to first-grade detective. the funeral for liu will be next weekend on saturday in brooklyn. back here at home more than 100 demonstrators took to the streets of philadelphia yesterday. leaders of the group muslims mobilized against police brutality called for an end to the killings of unarmed black men by police officers, a reference to the michael brown and eric garner cases. the protesters also discussed brandon brown and paid attention to his case. he was shot and killed by philadelphia police nearly two weeks ago. a march for brown is planned for tuesday. this morning we now know what caused the death of a 93-year-old woman who was almost hit by a truck that plowed right into her buck's county home. the driver sped off after crashing into the house on red brook lane on friday. an autopsy now reveals that the 93-year-old woman jenny rousseau died of natural causes. it was just a few hours after the truck nearly struck rousseau while she was sleeping in her bed. her family says although she was not physically injured in that accident, she was disturbed and shaken up by it. the 20-year-old accused driver is not in custody right now. the district attorney in buck's county is still deciding what charges to file. two months after shutting down its high school, an emball embattled philadelphia charter school announced it's closing. walter palmer charter school will shut down on december 31st. walter palmer points to financial difficulties. the chartder owes over a million dollars to the philadelphia school district. that order came earlier this year after the state supreme court found that the charter was collecting money from the district for too many students. as a result, the charter's high school closed. the governors of new york and new jersey have vetoed a bill designed to clean up the troubled port authority, and instead, they've proposed a series of reforms. the bill was designed to make changes to the agency known for scandals including the lane closures on the gw bridge, that some of governor chris christie chris christie's staff has been accused of being caught up in. part of the bill would have createddd -- instead, both governors say they will ask port authority board members to resign. hey, looking going real low. we'll talk about it after the break and explain why it's happening. it has become a very welcome sight for drivers. gas prices are at their lowest level in over four years. the national average price of a gallon of regular is just $2.31, and in 27 states prices at some stations have dipped below $2 a gallon. analysts say a major reason for this is that saudi arabia is flooding the market with oil, hoping to drive out competitors, including the u.s. >> saudi arabia is trying to undermine the u.s. shale oil production at the same time it's undermining iran and russia due to the violence we're seeing in the middle east. >> while u.s. oil production is booming, the highest in 20 years, our gas consumption has actually dropped to 40-year lows. as soon as i drove into work my gaslight went on. i've got to get some gas. in philadelphia we are paying about $2.60. so we're a little bit above the national average. delaware it's a little bit closer. and in south jersey it's right at the national average at $2.31 a gallon. some other good news to report. some very early holiday shopping numbers are out and it appears to be a good season for retailers. the preliminary estimate for mastercard shows that holiday sales increase 5.5% this year. that's higher than the 4.1% the national retail federation predicted. this weekend is vital for retailers, hoping for strong
