Northern Taiwan could feel like freezing on New Year s Eve

Taipei, Dec. 27 (CNA) New Taipei s Tamsui District and coastal areas of northern Taoyuan, as well as Hsinchu and Miaoli counties, could have perceived temperatures of as low as zero degree on New Year s Eve, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Sunday.
A strong cold wave and wet weather system is scheduled to affect the country in the afternoon of Dec. 30, sending temperatures plummeting to as low as 7 to 8 degrees Celsius in central and northern Taiwan, CWB forecaster Chen Chien-an (陳建安) said.
The cold wave is estimated to be at its strongest from late Dec. 31 to early Jan. 1, when mountains ranging from 800 meters to 1,000 meters or higher could see possible snowfall, including Yangmingshan in suburban Taipei, Lalashan in Taoyuan and Taipingshan in Yilan County, according to Chen.
