When we love someone, we want to spend time with him or her, don’t we? We don’t want to be far away from that person – and when we are far away, we can’t Tonight, at the conclusion of Mass, we will process with the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose outside the church. The tabernacle will be empty, and Jesus invites us to stay with him for a while in prayer. “Remain with me,” he says to us, “remain with me in my hour of pain and sorrow, in the hour of betrayal and imprisonment.”
Jesus fulfils every element of the Passover and is Himself the means for our freedom from slavery to sin and redemption from our own sinful lives and He paid for that redemption with His own blood. This has resulted in death passing over us so we can experience new life in Him.
