then had to, in an emergency land at the landing strip they need visibility and now there is a low cloud deck which is an issue and look at the flags flying very strong, the winds are very strong here, this morning. and, you can see the crosswinds would be a major issue here, so, the meteorologists are hoping that by 3:47 p.m., this afternoon, that the weather will clear up and allow for successful launch. look at the front, that came in last night, first two days ago, they were dealing with fire burning, three miles away from launch pad 39a of the media center and last night around 7:00, the trailing end of the same storm system, that brought the deadly tornadoes to the deep south, hit the space coast, bringing lightning and wind and rain and thunder and according to nasa did not do any damage to the shuttle or the shuttle stack but did delay, pulling back the servicing structure arm, however, taking wind on as
weather, isn t that the big issue? how s it looking? reporter: it is all about the wind, and right now it s borderline had the launch window been right now with these wind speeds, they re in the 20 and upper 20s as far as knots go. a major issue here not only at the launch pad, but also at the landing strip in case of emergency and the shuttle had to circle back around and land. but at this point it s borderline. it all comes down, according to meteorologists, as if wind shift changes instead of coming from the north/northwest, if it comes from the northeast, that could put us at too high a wind. it s going to come down to, really, the last ten minutes. 3:47 p.m. eastern time launch. you just saw the video of the team, they are right now in the astrovan that has ferried astronauts out to launch pad 39a for years and is years and years. it will soon be coming right by where we are, drop off a few vip who got to take a nice little,
scheduled 6:15 and that is complete and the astronauts woke up 6:00 a.m. and will suit up in 90 minutes and at the top of noon, they will drive the astro van out to the launch pad to load into shuttle endeavour, one by one. bill: how this is crew doing and what did they say yesterday, overnight, anything this morning? reporter: they are very quiet, when it comes to the last two days before a launch. however, nasa released this very cool glory photo of the six men, on this last shuttle endeavour ever mission, mission, and they went out to launch pad 39a and stood out therein front of the shuttle and the orange fuel tank, a pretty cool shot for the memory books there, and gabrielle giffords, the congresswoman, wife of commander mark kelly is on hand and, officials are keeping her activities private and she s watching from an undisclosed spot and it is unclear where president obama and his wife and daughters will watch the launch as well but, perhaps, the
houston. it s been a pleasure. we re not going back to the moon. the president made that clear. so i guess we ve we re not going back to the moon. we re going to the space place and guitterez. hey, chris. good morning, guys. what s amazing for these shuttle launches, i ve covered a few shuttle launches from the vantage point of mission control at the johnson space center. to be here at the space coast at the kennedy space center and feel that vibration, the launch pad 39a where discovery took off from is three miles from we are. you can still feel it and your chest is pounding and the darkness of night turns bright as day as it took off. it is really something spectacular to see and remember, there are three more launches scheduled by, i think, the last one is september 16th of this year. but man, if you haven t seen one or been a part of one, it s something else, guys. countdown is coming. three more left, right? that s right. all right, chris guiterrez at the space
