LSU board urges Louisiana Department of Health to require COVID vaccines

The LSU Board of Supervisors voted 9-2 Friday to urge the Louisiana Department of Health to add COVID-19 shots to a list of mandated vaccinations for college students once federal regulators give full approval to the vaccines. The vote came after the board adopted an amendment to notify students that they could opt out of a mandate for health, religious or other reasons. Students have long had the ability to opt out of other required vaccines, such as for measles or mumps, but few have realized that or done so. Faculty members fear that notifying students that they can ignore any COVID-19 requirement will undercut the school's efforts to increase vaccination rates as more dangerous variants of the virus spread.

LSU President gives updates on Title IX processes, Department of Education investigations

Interim President Thomas Galligan gave an update on the University’s progress on reforming Title IX procedures Thursday, and answered other questions students have raised on campus. “We have to train, train, train,” Galligan said. “Because empathy, culture shift, increased sensitivity, is going to come from awareness and knowledge.” Galligan said since the Husch Blackwell report was released, the University has looked at the 18 recommendations and plans to implement all of them. “We now have the 18 recommendations and an action plan that has 47 action items on it and we’re through a third of them,” Galligan said. As for further sanctions against employees mentioned in the Husch Blackwell report, Galligan said there are “people who are definitely being looked at.”

LSU Board of Supervisors member calls on the school's legal firm to be terminated

Lee Mallett, LSU Board of Supervisors Member LSU Board of Supervisors member Lee Mallett is calling for the university to cut ties with legal counsel Taylor Porter. He said their advice to a small group of university leaders to keep the board in the dark about the alleged sexual misconduct of former coach Les Miles, is the core of the school’s coverup. “The only party left that was involved in that in my opinion is the attorneys and I think that that’s terrible advice to tell them not to report this to the board, the board should have been told about it,” said Mallett.
