Despite difficult conditions, SMEs do not expect their workforce to shrink in the first half of 2023. This is according to the SME Work Barometer. “Yet, there are plenty of warning signs,” says VKW Limburg’s Managing Director Ruben Lemmens.?
The Climate Award issued by the Belgian newspaper, Het Belang van Limburg, goes this year to the Limburg-based brick manufacturer Vandersanden. Receiving this accolade is a well-deserved reward for the family-run business and recognises its efforts spanning a period of over 15 years in the area of sustainability.?

Hasselt - This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award in the context of the Limburg Entrepreneur of the Year goes posthumously to Baroness Tony Baert. This remarkable lady who was an integral part of the newspaper’s management team for some 70 years died on 13 April.

Nelissen Steenfabrieken in Lanaken is preparing for a sustainable future with a bold investment plan of at least 100 million euros. If all goes well, a new factory for bricks with ovens running on hydrogen will be created on an adjacent plot of land in Kesselt around 2027. This should provide 75 additional jobs.

We will find out on Wednesday 7 December, when it will be announced who will be crowned the eighth ‘Limburg Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the governor’s residence in Hasselt. It is Flemish Minister for the Economy Jo Brouns (cd&v) who has the honours of announcing the winner.
