Vollie Riskin

Friday, April 30, 2021 8:00 am Vollie Riskin passed away on April 10 after battling cancer. She was 92. It would be wrong to say that Vollie lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she stayed positive and determined. When anyone else would have broken, she stayed strong. Through her we learned what resilience and perseverance truly look like. Vollie was born in Guntersville, Alabama in 1928, the seventh of 10 children to Thomas and Alice Duncan. She was the only one that would get up every day, by herself, determined not to miss a day of school. Mrs. Riskin met and married her husband Jerome while he was stationed in the service, and she was the colonel’s secretary in Selma, Alabama. They made their home in Hammond, Indiana. She worked for the Social Security Administration for the next 50 years as well as being a realtor for their own business, Riskin Realty. While there she was active in the League of Women Voters, Eastern Star, being a handwriting analyst and enjoying golf. They retired to Madeira Beach Florida where Jerome died in 2003. Vollie is survived by two loving daughters, Janet Budreau and Cathy “CJ” Weinstein, their husbands Dave and Robert, two grandchildren Mike and Tom Budreau, and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Riskin never met anyone she didn’t like or want to help. If you belonged to her, she was always on your side. We will truly miss her kind, sweet ways! A Celebration of Life Service will be held on May 15, at Noccalula Falls in Gadsden, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, send donations to: Prodisee Pantry at prodiseepantry.org
