The weekend tweet storm and mention of Robert Mueller by name have some dedeucing that the president is ready to shut mueller down. Two republicans in the senate say that would be a disaster. Well, as i said before, if he tried to do that, that would be the beginning of the end of this presidency because were rule of law nation. Its an all too familiar scene here in Virginia Beach, 12 people murdered in the deadliest mass shooting in the United States this year. Four other people are injured after police say a disgruntled employee started indiscriminately shooting at a City Government building. And now once again a community is in mourning. This is a day that none of us thought we would ever live in. I think for all of us that are residents here, we all went to bed last night hoping we would wake up today and its just a bad dream. But its our reality. And these are the faces that matter. These are the faces at the center of heartbreak. 11 of these 12 were dedicated employees, murdered at their workplace. we are getting new insight into robert mueller s russia report. the justice department has released a voice mail transcript from one of the attorneys to michael flynn. in that transcript, trump s attorney john dowd said, quote. this is to flynn s attorney. he then adds for a heads-up and dowd wanted to remind flynn about this, quote. former special assistant to robert mueller and cnn legal annist michael zelldin joins me. what mueller said in his
testify or not or be interviewed or not depends on what you know as the lawyer and attorney-client relationship. but i think politically, it s folks are expecting the president to go out and discuss this with mueller to bring it to some type of conclusion so there aren t these open questions but there is some peril in doing that as michael said as it relates to potential perjury or lying to lying under oath or lying to an investigator that may be asking questions. so that s always a risk whenever you have these types of discussions. and that s why there s so much debate inside the white house about this. exactly. the legal team about this. i think most of the legal team right now is agreed they don t want him to testify. and i think it s high risk, low reward, right? very high risk. they all know him really well. the president thinks i can game this out and talk to these lawyers and i ve got nothing to hide and lawyers understand how
them very little wiggle room to say that they can resist a grand jury subpoena for the testimony. they can game this out a bit with mueller to try to gain some knowledge of what s going on but in the end if mueller says i want your testimony and serves them with a grand jury subpoena, it s not clear they have any legal basis to resist it. they may resist it and take it to the supreme court and get another i know nothing decision against them which will take two years and keep a cloud over the presidency, but it s not easy to think about how they avoid this interview. michael, thank you so much. gloria borger and jim schultz as well, we appreciate it. we re standing by in northern california where in a few minutes police are going to hold a news conference and give us new details on yesterday s shooting at youtube headquarters, we ll have that coming up.
