Detroit Lions return to 97.1 The Ticket for radio, four years after leaving over Mike Valenti's on-air criticism Detroit Lions return to 97.1 The Ticket for radio, four years after leaving over Mike Valenti's on-air criticism

01/06/2021 Why write about the Detroit Lions switching radio flagship stations here? (Other than the guy writing this post is an eternally suffering Lions fan?) Hey, that’s a good question. Sports team radio broadcast affiliates are as local as it gets in sports media. Jumping from WJR-AM to WXYT-FM (an Entercom station) is a move that will likely only interest dedicated fans of the perenially beleaguered NFL franchise located in metro Detroit, throughout Michigan, and even parts of Ohio. But what makes the Lions’ move intriguing is that the team left WXYT — otherwise known as 97.1 The Ticket — four years ago because management wasn’t happy with the frequent criticism coming from the station’s afternoon drive-time host, Mike Valenti.

Detroit Lions bury their beef with 97.1 The Ticket, move broadcasts back to longtime radio home

Detroit Lions bury their beef with 97.1 The Ticket, move broadcasts back to longtime radio home Updated Dec 18, 2020; ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions will begin their new era with an old radio home, moving back on the dial to 97.1 The Ticket in 2021. Dan Miller, the longtime and popular voice of the Lions, is expected to remain in place as the team’s play-by-play man. “The Lions are synonymous with the city of Detroit and this is a great opportunity to leverage our position as the unrivaled leaders in sports radio and deliver dynamic Lions content, both on game days and throughout the year,” said Debbie Kenyon, senior vice president and market manager at Entercom Detroit. “This partnership now makes 97.1 The Ticket the flagship station for all four professional sports teams in the Motor City, giving fans a one-stop destination for all of their favorite local teams.”
