Franklin NJ landlord charged in fire that killed Heaven Davenport, 13

Heaven Davenport died in the blaze, which forced family members and neighbors to abandon rescue efforts shortly after 10 p.m. on March 19.  My heart is broken, I have a million emotions going on, Dorothy Davenport said as she reflected on her daughter s life. She was wonderful and funny and kind, she said. She loved her family and friends and admired wise quotes. Davenport said her daughter was close with her younger siblings and cousins, always reiterating that sharing is caring. We are lost for words, she said. Nothing we say or do can bring our baby back. After the fire, the Sussex County community rallied to assist the family with the means to get back on its feet, support that Davenport said she was thankful for during this horrible nightmare.

And in places like Hartford, lawsuits that have forced integration have had unintended inequitable consequences; a magnet program meant to attract the region’s white families has left many high-quality seats unfilled, wi
