The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Wednesday assured motorists and residents along the Magboro axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway of safety around the scene of a gas pipeline rupture in that area.
NNPC’s spokesperson, Kennie Obateru, said the pipeline break which was caused by a construction company carrying out excavation work in the area resulted in gas leakage.
He said in a statement issued in Abuja that the leakage was promptly contained through the efforts of the NNPC team, officials from the Lagos State Government, and other stakeholders.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has commenced the rehabilitation of the broken gas pipeline along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement obtained by Vanguard, the NNPC spokesperson, Dr Kennie Obateru, urged members of the public to go about their duties normally as all safety measures have been put in place to avert any danger, adding that repair work has commenced with a view to restoring gas supply as soon as possible.
He explained that the pipeline break was caused by a construction company carrying out excavation work in the area resulted in gas leakage, adding that it was promptly contained through the efforts of NNPC team, officials from the Lagos State Government, and other stakeholders.

Industrial customers and other entities receiving gas through the pipeline that was ruptured in Magboro, Ogun State, on Wednesday have seen supply cut off following the isolation of the affected section of the line.
One of our correspondents gathered that the Nigerian Gas Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, was the operator of the pipeline, a distribution line supplying gas majorly to industries.
An NNPC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the isolation of the ruptured part of the pipeline had disrupted supply to customers, especially manufacturing companies, in Ogun State and beyond.

As a move to control the gas pipeline breakage along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has isolated and depressurized the pipeline.
This came even as the corporation assured of safety around the scene of the gas pipeline rupture.
The gas pipeline breakage which occurred at the early of Wednesday had created panic along with gridlock around the axis, forcing motorist into an alternative route.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corridor Commander, Lagos-Ibadan-Egbeda Corridor, DCC Kehinde Hamzat, “We have a case of gas pipeline explosion around Punch Newspaper, Magboro. The pipeline got burst while men of Julius Berger, the construction company working on Lagos-Ibadan expressway were excavating a surface for Worksite. This has led to a standstill traffic situation on both sections of the expressway.
