NorthJersey.com wins 35 awards in annual state journalism contest

The Record and NorthJersey.com won 35 awards in the New Jersey Press Association's annual Better Newspaper Contest, including top honors for extensive coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic in New Jersey.
Singled out was the Loved and Lost series, a statewide media collaboration with the Center for Cooperative Media at Montclair State University that set out to name and celebrate the life of every New Jersey resident lost to COVID-19. That was recognized with a first-place Innovation Award.
Photographers Amy Newman and Michael Karas won first-place awards for their photos and video of the Madonna Multinational Home for Funerals in Passaic, depicting its struggles as it was overwhelmed by COVID-19 funerals. Newman also won the NJPA's Best of Show award for her photos of the funeral home.
